What Are Functional Movements
Functional movements mimic the motions we use every day, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and carrying. Unlike isolated exercises, functional fitness teaches your body to work as a unit, improving strength, balance, and coordination in ways that translate directly into real life.
Think about it this way:
Carrying groceries = a loaded carry.
Squatting to pick something up = a squat.
Lifting your kids = a deadlift.
Pushing a heavy door open = a push press.

How to Start Functional Training
You don’t need complicated equipment to start:
Try bodyweight squats, lunges, and push-ups.
Practice loaded carries with grocery bags or dumbbells.
Add rotational moves like woodchops with a band or weight.
